Carlow man fined for shouting at woman on the street

A MAN who shouted aggressively at a woman on the street after she had purportedly locked his house keys in a car was fined €450 at Carlow District Court recently.
Michael Meany, 59 Friars Green, Tullow Road, Carlow was charged with a offence for exhibiting threatening, abusive or insulting behaviour in a public place after gardaí received a report of him shouting on Brown Street, Carlow on 23 August. They observed him shouting aggressively at a woman.
Mr Meany (28) entered a guilty plea to the offence. His solicitor Joe Farrell explained his keys had been locked in a vehicle and Mr Meany wasn’t able to get into his house. The woman was “known to him” and “wasn’t in the best shape,” he said, and his client “was trying to fix the situation”.
Inspector Conor Nolan outlined that the defendant has 56 previous convictions, six of which were for offences. Mr Farrell told the court that his client seems to have since “straightened himself out”.
He told Judge Geraldine Carthy that Mr Meany has a seven-year-old child and was in employment. Mr Farrell asked the court to deal with the offence “as benevolently as you can”.
Judge Carthy fined him €450.
