Controlled explosion carried out after suspect device found in house outside Carlow town

Members of the Explosive Ordnance Disposal team removed the volatile devices
Army personnel attended a house in Kernanstown, outside Carlow town yesterday, Thursday and found several suspect devices which they removed for a controlled explosion to be carried out.
During the course of a planned search operation, gardaí had earlier discovered a number of suspect devices at the house and they immediately set up a cordon around the area. They then contacted the defence forces which sent out an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team who attended the scene. The team removed the viable suspect devices for a controlled explosion to be conducted.

It's believed that the team were in situ until about 10pm last night, with the cordon then being lifted and the area being declared safe.
A quantity of suspected benzodiazepine tablets was seized during the search, pending analysis. No arrests have been made yet in relation to the suspect devices.
Investigations are ongoing.
