Christmas Tree Fest begins on Friday

SCHOOL children, community groups and businesses have all been beavering away behind the scenes, creating Christmas trees of all shapes and makes for an upcoming event that promises to bring plenty of festive cheer.

The Carlow Union of Parishes is hosting its annual Christmas Tree Festival in St Mary’s Church, Haymarket, Carlow over the weekend beginning Friday 29 November from 11am to 7pm and continuing on Saturday and Sunday, with Sunday also featuring a special service at 10.45am.

Lots of local groups have volunteered to make Christmas trees for the special event, so expect to see all types of wonderful creations on display. There will also be live music from local choirs, refreshments and a raffle.

Fabulous prizes

The Church of Ireland congregations of Staplestown, St Mary's and Urglin, along with the Park Hotel, Dungarvan, Seven Oaks Hotel, Reddy’s pub, the Woodford Dolmen Hotel, Cindy’s Café, SpecSavers and Rory Healy have all provided generous hampers, sponsorship and fabulous prizes for the raffle.

The Christmas Tree Festival is supported by Carlow County Council and Carlow Tourism.

It’ll be officially opened by Bishop Adrian Wilkinson at noon on Friday and all are welcome to pop in over the three days to soak up the atmosphere.

Entry fee is €5 for adults and children go free.
