Carlow launches Pan Celtic Festival '25

PAN CELTIC is back for 2025, with Carlow once again doing the honours and hosting this annual celebration of all-things Celtic.
Teach Dolmain, Carlow was a hub of excitement and anticipation last Wednesday night as the 2025 International Pan Celtic Festival was officially announced.
This remarkable cultural celebration, scheduled to take place from 22-26 April, will bring the vibrant spirit of the Celtic nations – Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Brittany, Cornwall, and the Isle of Man – to the heart of Carlow.
In her opening remarks, Bríde de Róiste, representing the Pan Celtic organising committee, emphasised the significance of this festival, stating: “The Pan Celtic Festival is more than just a gathering; it is a cherished tradition that celebrates the unity and diversity of the Celtic nations. Here in Carlow, we are proud to host an event that intertwines language, music, dance and storytelling, creating a tapestry of shared heritage that binds us together as one Celtic family.” Cllr Fergal Browne, cathaoirleach of Carlow County Council, captured the festival’s essence, describing it as a bridge between past and present.
“Cultural festivals like the Pan Celtic are not merely showcases of talent; they are living embodiments of our collective stories and aspirations,” he said.
The festival’s Pan Celtic Song Contest, a much-anticipated highlight, was singled out for its ability to unite the nations through the power of music, storytelling and innovation.
“The Pan Celtic Festival is an annual international celebration of the shared heritage, languages, music and traditions of the six Celtic nations – Ireland, Scotland, Wales, Brittany, Cornwall, and the Isle of Man. It brings together people from these regions to showcase their unique identities while highlighting their common roots. The festival features vibrant cultural performances, including music, dance and storytelling, along with the renowned Pan Celtic Song Contest, where original compositions in native languages take centre stage. Through workshops, events and competitions, the festival celebrates the richness of Celtic culture and fosters connections across these historic communities,” said cllr Browne.
Cllr Fintan Phelan, mayor of Carlow Municipal District, focused on the festival’s potential to drive economic and community development.
“The Pan Celtic Festival is a powerful engine for growth,” he remarked, praising Carlow’s businesses for their exceptional contributions to the 2024 edition,” he said. He expressed optimism for 2025, noting that the influx of thousands of visitors will create opportunities across the hospitality, retail, and tourism sectors, benefiting the local economy and elevating Carlow’s reputation on the global stage.
Coilín O’Reilly, chief executive of Carlow County Council, echoed these sentiments, underscoring the importance of community and business support for events like the Pan Celtic Festival.
“Festivals and events are at the heart of what makes a community vibrant and welcoming. They provide a platform for cultural exchange, foster economic growth and build a shared sense of pride and identity,” he said.
