Brigid Mary Jacob from Graignamanagh carried her Irish heritage proudly throughout her life

BRIGID Mary Jacob, a devoted wife, loving mother and cherished grandmother, passed away peacefully on 5 January 2026 surrounded by the love of her family. She was 82 years’ old.
Being born in Graignamanagh, Brigid carried her Irish heritage proudly throughout her life. She shared warmth, quick wit and an unmistakable laugh generously with all who knew her. Her laughter could fill a room and her presence brought comfort and joy to family and friends.
As a young woman, Brigid moved to New York, where she met the love of her life, Thomas Jacob. Their marriage marked the beginning of a lifelong partnership built on devotion, shared dreams and an unwavering commitment to family. Together, they created a beautiful life and later made south Florida their home, where they raised their children and built lasting friendships.
Family was the centre of Brigid’s world. She took immense pride in her children and grandchildren and treasured every gathering, celebration and quiet moment spent together. Always ready for a good chat and a cup of tea, she offered wisdom, kindness and often a touch of playful banter.
She was well known for her long, brisk walks, a reflection of her energetic spirit and determined nature.
Brigid is survived by her children Tommy Jacob and his wife Veronica (née O’Brien), Doreen Hart and her husband Paul and Glen Jacob and his wife Lisa (née Macedo). She was a proud and adoring grandmother â lovingly known as ‘Nan’â to Liam, Cara, Caitlin, TJ, Stone, Haley, Aiden, Logan and Quinn and great-grandmother to Rory.
She is also survived by her sisters Mary O’Mahony and Margaret O’Connor, her brothers Pat and Andy Mahon and her extended family in Ireland and the United States. She was preceded in death by her husband Thomas (Bagenalstown) brothers Willie and Bobby Mahon and her parents Patrick and Hannah Mahon (Newtown, Graignamanagh).
Brigid will be deeply missed and forever loved. Her strength, humour and generous heart will live on in the lives of all who were blessed to know her.
A family Mass will be held on 26 June at 10am at Duiske Abbey, Graignamanagh, Co Kilkenny. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on 27 June at 10am in St Andrew’s Church, Bagenalstown. Interment of ashes to follow in Our Lady of Assumption Cemetery.
