STUDENTS from Borris Vocational School took part in the ‘Big Idea’ student accelerator workshop in Dublin recently. Approximately 100 guests, including mentors and corporate partners from organisations including Autodesk, Mastercard, MSD, Rethink Ireland, Microsoft, Nostra, PA, Unum Ireland and ESB attended, along with students and their teachers.

The most innovative student teams from the 2024 Big Idea programme took part in the workshop, where they had the opportunity to further develop unique solutions to challenges facing their communities.

The workshop involved digital prototyping and a Dragon’s Den-style live pitching session. The Big Idea is a multi-award- winning, free, creative thinking skills programme for transition year students, students from Deis schools, leaving certificate applied students and YouthReach participants.

The programme was founded and developed by Kim McKenzie, an industrial product designer who lives in Leighlinbridge and who was a lecturer in SETU Carlow.
