Beast race showcased Carlow at its finest
The winning female team: Hillary Jenkinson, Niamh O'Ceallaigh, Roisin McDonnell and Jackie Atkinson
IRELAND’S PREMIER adventure race, the Beast Adventure Race, was hosted in Co Carlow recently and was a remarkable success, with 35 teams from Ireland, Britain and other countries coming to the southeast to take part.

Covering over 240km, this race was a true test of endurance, teamwork and spirit. Adventure racing is a team sport that involves several outdoor activities, including cycling, kayaking, trekking and orienteering and is done in most countries around the world.
This year’s Beast Adventure race involved teams completing an 11-stage race, which started in Carlow Town Park and finished 24 hours later in Carlow Rugby Club.
Activities during the race included urban orienteering around Carlow town to start, a great paddle on the scenic River Barrow, two trekking stages on Brandon Hill and in the Backstairs uplands, some night orienteering in Woodstock Gardens, stand-up paddle boarding and some exhilarating biking throughout the region.
It was a real celebration of all the outdoor activities that can be experiences in the Barrow Valley and Backstairs region.
Run entirely by volunteers, the Beast was organised by the national governing body, Adventure Racing Ireland.
