THE Barrow Valley Art Group held its annual art exhibition over the past week in Carlow College. The exhibition was officially launched on Friday 25 October and was opened by MEP and Carlow native Cynthia Ní Mhurchu, alongside members of the art group.

The exhibition was displayed across the two rooms of Cobden Hall and James Doyle Room, which allowed for a much better spread of paintings and patrons, according to Ruth Coffey of the Barrow Valley Art Group, who said there was a “surprisingly good turnout at the launch” and a lively attendance throughout the week-long exhibition.

The exhibition hosted art from artists who have been painting for over 30 years, as well as new members of the group. Over 20 paintings were sold at the exhibition.

The exhibition was in support of the Carlow County Hospice to raise funds for the much-needed facility where they do wonderous work providing palliative care for people in their last days of life.

Barrow Valley Art Group extended its gratitude to all those involved in the exhibition, saying “a huge thank you to Fr Conn Ó Maoldhomhnaigh for granting us use of the beautiful facilities there, which certainly lent a fabulous ambience to the whole venture, and also to his colleague Avril Lawlor, the facility manager at Carlow College. A big thank you to Cynthia NÍ Mhurchu, of course – she’s always promoted and embraced love of the arts in Carlow. And thank you to the hospice committee, who worked hand-in-hand with the Barrow Valley Art Group committee in the run-up to the exhibition.

“We also couldn’t have done it without the heavy lifters team, who helped us with all the display boards and set up for the exhibition, so a big thank you is owed to them.”
