CARLOW town barber Ann-Marie Lawler is displaying her art for the second time – this time in Leighlinbridge.
Following the success of her first exhibition in the ArtBank gallery in Bunclody last September, Ann-Marie, who paints under the surname Roche, is taking her new works to the Lord Bagenal Hotel this Sunday, 18 October.
Ann-Marie spent months working on her exhibition, titled .
“Each painting is a chapter,” she explained. “It’s about my life and what I have gone through, but everyone has similar chapters.”
The exhibition includes 15 large paintings, which can take Ann-Marie up to 60 hours to complete. She is also showcasing a handful of smaller pieces.
Ann-Marie worked with the owner of the ArtBank gallery John Renwick on her first exhibition, titled , but she has taken on this exhibition solo.
“John was great because he’s helping you prep, but this time you’re doing everything from start to finish. I suppose it’s more satisfying,” she said.
“It’s an honour for people to want them,” said Ann-Marie about selling her paintings, but she can find it hard to part ways with some of her most treasured and emotional pieces.
Last year Ann-Marie and her cousin Tara Sheehan celebrated 21 years in business together running Carlow town’s second-oldest barber shop and one of its most loved.
