PASSENGERS on the Waterford to Heuston rail line experienced a delay in Carlow this afternoon, 9 December, due to ‘anti-social behaviour’ on the train.

The setback occurred at 2.13pm, when an announcement informed commuters that the train would remain stationary in Carlow until gardaí arrived at the scene. The train recommenced its journey at 2.46pm. One minute later, the official Iarnród Éireann X account posted: ‘13:05 Waterford to Heuston stopped at Carlow. Awaiting the arrival of the gardaí. Due to reported anti-social behaviour on board. Update to follow.’

A passenger commuting to Dublin from Kilkenny said the delay to her journey did not cause her too trouble.

Another passenger said the affair was very well handled by Iarnród Éireann: “The delay wasn’t uncomfortable,” she said.

“Some people were interested, some people were getting a little concerned and were moving around a bit for a while, but then people started to relax and chat, and we moved out very quickly.”
