Amy scoops €10k scholarship

Amy Nolan from Carlow town has just been awarded a scholarship worth €10,000
AMY Nolan, a past pupil of Presentation College, has just been awarded the Helen Flynn Memorial Scholarship for 2025.
She was awarded €10,000 by the scholarship, to help her financially through her college years. She is studying International Relations in Dublin City University, having just sat her leaving cert this summer. Amy (18) is the daughter of Breda and John Nolan from Castle Oaks, Carlow who are delighted with the news.
“We’re delighted that she won the scholarship. It’s major, it’ll help with her college fees. We’re super proud of her. She’s a great girl. She’s very driven and focused and gets involved with whatever she’d doing,” said her proud mother, Breda.
The scholarship is in memory of business woman, Helen Flynn (née Ryan) who was originally from St Mullins. She became the managing director of HIRECO Ltd after working her way up through a male-dominated industry, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues, clients and business partners. As a mark of respect after her death 2022, the company, under the leadership of Pat Carson,
CE of HIRECO, generously committed €100,000 over ten years to fund an educational scholarship in Helen’s name.
In early September, a selection panel, chaired by Mr Carson interviewed Amy. “The panel was extremely impressed with Amy and very pleased to recommend her as the successful candidate. Amy very much reflects the essence of the bursary and HIRECO is delighted to support her. Amy will receive €10,000 to support her third level educational journey.” Amy was also interviewed by Clare Ryan, retired principal of St Leo’s College who is a sister of the late Helen.
Amy was helped with her application for the scholarship by several of her teachers in Presentation College, including her business teacher, Gráinne Fogarty, basketball coach Vinnie Homan and principal Ray Murray.
