Action sought on speeding in Castledermot

Barnhill on the way into Castledermot
The local council has been urged to implement speed reduction measures at Skenagun and Barnhill on the R448 in Castledermot.
Local councillor Veralouise Behan highlighted the issue at September’s meeting of Athy Municipal District. A report noted that while the Municipal District office is investigating the matter, speed is an issue for An Garda Síochána.
Addressing the meeting, cllr Behan said there are things the council can do regarding these areas and said any steps that are made are welcomed by the community.
The Fianna Fáil councillor said there are kids walking to school at both locations – which are on opposite sides of the town – and added that some speed mitigation measures would be helpful.
Her party colleague cllr Brian Dooley said people’s behaviour is getting worse and said the type of signage that slows people down is working at Geraldine Cross (near Athy).
