€105k funding for five Carlow historic buildings

FIVE much-loved historic buildings in County Carlow will benefit to the tune of over €105,000 thanks to grants that have just been announced by the government.
Thornville House, Knockarda, Palatine, Carlow will receive €35,000 for roof repairs; Sherwood Park House, Kilbride, Carlow will receive €15,000 for external walls; Ballykealey House, Ballon will also receive €15,000 for roof repairs; St Mary’s Church in Carlow will receive €26,500 for external wall repairs; and the Holy Trinity church, Bilboa, Carlow will receive €13,500 to refurbish and maintain its interior.
The funding was delivered by the (BHIS) and will support repairs to nine historic buildings in total, both public and private, in Carlow in 2026.
The scheme covers restoration work to historic buildings such as roof and wall repairs and works on windows and doors. Grants of between €2,500 and €50,000 are available.
The funding is provided by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage National Built Heritage Service and is administered by the local authorities.
Announcing the funding on 23 January, minister for housing, local government and heritage, James Browne said the funding “will ensure that the architectural legacy of past generations continues to survive in towns, villages and rural communities in Carlow."
