Conference to celebrate women in agriculture taking place in October

A NATIONAL conference celebrating women in agriculture will be held in Co Offaly in October.
Titled , the event is being organised by Teagasc to mark the United Nations International Year of the Woman Farmer initiative. It will take place at the Tullamore Court Hotel on Thursday 15 October.
Women and men from across Ireland’s farming community are invited to attend the conference, which will promote the contribution of women in agriculture while exploring opportunities and challenges facing the future of the industry.
Farmers, advisers, researchers and industry leaders will take part in panel discussions aimed at supporting women at every stage of their farming journey. Speakers already confirmed include full-time farmer and content creator Sophie Bell and Dr Erika Valério, gender and agrifood expert with the United Nations.
Whether farming full time or exploring new opportunities in the industry, attendees will gain practical insights and connections to help shape their future in agriculture.
One of the key aims of the event is to assist families and male farmers in encouraging female successors into farming and farm businesses.
Dr Stan Lalor, director of knowledge transfer at Teagasc, said: “This conference is about recognising the vital role women play across Irish agriculture and creating a space where they can share experiences, learn from one another and gain practical knowledge to support their farming journey.
