Cynthia ‘enthused and energised’ by her new job

“FULL ON and exciting” is how newly-elected MEP Cynthia Ní Mhurchú has described her first weeks in the European Parliament.

After 27 years practising law, Cynthia decided to embark on a political career earlier this year and says she is “enthused and energised” by her new job. The Carlow native feels that Ireland has prospered greatly from European membership and says she is “proud to protect the interests of voters in Carlow, the southeast and the south”.
She has spent the last month dividing her time between Brussels, Strasbourg and home, voting on matters such as aid to Ukraine and electing presidents of both the EU parliament and the commission. As well as attending various meetings and events, including with a delegation from Carlow Chamber of Commerce, Cynthia has been getting to know her fellow Fianna Fáil MEPs as well as saying goodbye to those outgoing. In addition, she says she has spent time walking the city of Brussels, discovering nice neighbourhoods, parks, art galleries, cafés, practicing her French and sleeping “go sámh ar nós báibín” every night.
