Calls to restore Ballinkillen bus stop as residents face mile-long walk

RESIDENTS who live in a housing estate near Ballinkillen, Co Carlow are being made to walk a mile to the nearest bus stop after a bus stop at St Lazarian’s Church in the village was suddenly discontinued.
Fine Gael cllr Thomas Kinsella raised the matter at the September meeting of Bagenalstown Municipal District. The bus route affected is route 881, which goes from Graignamanagh to Kilkenny.
“If you want to get the bus, you have to walk nearly a mile to Goresbridge,” cllr Kinsella told the meeting, “The bus still passes St Lazarian’s Church.” According to cllr Kinsella, he has had several people approach him about the matter, including elderly people and others who have poor vision, who rely on the bus.
“It doesn’t really make sense,” cllr Kinsella said.
At the meeting, cllr Kinsella was advised to raise the matter with Jackie Neely, who is the general manager of the Local Link transport service and serves as the community representative on Carlow Co Council’s transportation, environment and infrastructure/services strategic policy committee. Cllr Kinsella said that he would raise the issue with him in due course.
