It’s pure Hollywood football as Killeshin FC rolls out the red carpet

KILLESHIN FC rolled out the red carpet for a successful Oscars-themed fundraiser on Saturday 14 June, with over 500 people packing the Woodford Dolmen Hotel for a night of lights, laughter and local legends on the big screen.
The fundraising event saw six teams recreate famous movie scenes, with local volunteers taking on roles as actors in clips from beloved films, including
, , and . The productions were professionally filmed by Lip Sync Battles Ireland, with each team producing 15-20 minute clips of their chosen movie’s main scenes.“The teams spent a couple of months in rehearsals. Then, the production company came and videoed scenes,” explained Killeshin FC chairman Ger Dunne. “The volunteers that worked on this were people in the football club, family members and supporters ‒ they all got involved and volunteered to take the different roles needed.”

The evening featured Oscar-style categories, including best actor and actress, supporting roles, best costume, best location and best comedy moment. Teams competed not only for acting honours but also to become the ‘highest grossing movie’ through their fundraising efforts.

The judging panel included David Walsh, minister Jennifer Murnane O’Connor, Micheál Brennan and Georgie Whelan. Special guests of honour were the club’s U16 girls team, who were brought on stage to celebrate their recent league victory.
The funds raised will support the next phase of club development, including a new grass pitch for the rapidly-expanding girls teams, floodlights for both grass pitches and completion of the new clubhouse first floor.
