THERE WAS great excitement in Newtown Dunleckney NS recently when the pupils were visited by a number of the Fenagh footballers following their recent Intermediate Championship victory over Kildavin/Clonegal.

The team mates were joined by some of the under-16 Fenagh ladies, who won this year’s Division A county football final.

The players were introduced to a rapturous welcome in the school hall and a sea of black and white could be seen as the children made a fantastic effort to don themselves in the club colours for their local heroes.

The visit came at a fantastic time as the boys and girls in Newtown Dunleckney NS had participated in the Allianz Cumann na mBunscoil football finals just two days beforehand.

The Fenagh players presented both teams with their medals on the day and shared some words of encouragement with them. Participation, determination and perseverance were the main messages the winning GAA players bestowed upon the pupils.

The players generously gave their time to answer questions and take photographs with the pupils, with some of the children even getting to hold the cup!

The players also brought some goodies for the children, which went down a treat. It was a fantastic day enjoyed by all.
