Esther and Paudge Reddy celebrate 60 years of wedded bliss

Esther and Paudge celebrated 60 years of marriage
IT was love at first sight when Paudge Reddy met a young girl called Esther Brophy at The Cannery factory in Carlow town, where they both worked more than six decades ago.
And it was a love that endured and deepened as the years flew by for the couple as they have just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. They marked the occasion by having a gathering with their children and grandchildren at their home in Pinewood, Carlow town.
The couple tied the knot on 31 August 1964, with their wedding reception in the Crofton Hotel, now known as the Seven Oaks Hotel. They later honeymooned in Galway, and being children of the 60s, travelled there on Paudge’s motorcycle! Esther was just 18 when she got married, with Paudge being three years older.

“It was absolute love at first sight for them! Daddy brought her home on his bicycle and that was the start of it. They remained sweethearts all their lives,” said their daughter Carol.
The couple settled in Carlow town and raised five children – Kim, Carol, Paula, Michael and Jonathan – and their family now encompasses 11 grandchildren.
It was a beautiful occasion when happy couple marked their 60 years together on Saturday 31 August. Their children and grandchildren toasted their long and happy life together, while the happy couple cherished all those years together.
