THERE was magic in the air in the George Bernard Shaw Theatre when students from two schools came together for the first time to stage a musical.
A little bit of history was made when transition year students from both St Mary’s Academy CBS and Gaelcholáiste Cheatharlach collaborated for the first time to produce a stage show.

They picked the musical Voulez Vous – The Mamma Mia! Story as their production, the all-singing, all-dancing extravaganza based on Abba’s hit songs.
Set on a sun-soaked Greek island, Mamma Mia! follows the story of Sophie, a young bride-to-be, as she secretly invites three men from her mother Donna’s past to her wedding in the hopes of discovering which one is her father.

The leading roles were studded with students from both CBS and the Gaelcholáiste. From CBS were Callum Amartey as Sky, James Wu as Sam, Maiklas Lucas as Bill, Elijah Jordan Reid as Fr Alex, Joao Hernandes as Eddie and Bruno Sanchez Lanuza as Pepper.

Isabelle Nic Mhathúna and Róisín Ní Raghaill played the respective female lead roles of Donna and Sophie, along with Shalan Adebisi playing Tanya, Ruby Ní Fhainín playing Rosie, Tristan Mac AdhBhuí as Harry, Katie Marie Dáibhís Ní Néill playing Ali and Jessica Ní Bhaoil in the role of Lisa.
The show was directed by Michael Florin Cahill with Marie Cashin as choreographer and Ollie Hennessy as musical director. Mary Amond O'Brien was the vocal coach while Pamela Earle was stage manager.

The show ran over several days and nights in the GBS Theatre, delighting audiences of all ages, all of them singing along like a live Abba jukebox!
