The makers behind the new live action Scooby-Doo TV series have announced that production has begun.

The Hunger Games actress Mckenna Grace is starring as Daphne Blake in the new Netflix show all about the mystery-solving gang and their eponymous Great Dane.

The famous foursome is also made up of The Pitt actor Tanner Hagen, who will play the role of Shaggy Rogers, while Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret star Abby Ryder Fortson will be Velma Dinkley, and Lost In Space actor Maxwell Jenkins appears as Fred Jones.

Netflix said the new series is “less about what you already know, and more about how it all started”.

Netflix said: “Half a century, three theatrical films, and more than a dozen animated series later, Scooby-Doo remains one of pop culture’s most recognisable and entertaining characters.

“But few people know how the cowardly dog and his mystery-solving gang first got together.”

The new series will see the gang “going back to the beginning, and the terrifying case that started it all”, it added.

A photo of the four main cast members was also posted on the Netflix Instagram account.

The accompanying caption read: “Jinkies!! The Scooby gang has started production on Scooby-Doo: Origins!!”

Further details on when the show will be aired are to be announced at a later date.
