Heated Rivalry star Connor Storrie introduced Rodrigo, who was wearing a light pink ruffled chiffon dress with legwarmers and heels, to the stage to sing her new song in acoustic form from a swing, in a nod to her upcoming album cover.

She sang: “What a shame, you’re not here. Here to witness my devotion, and my endless well of needs.

“I’m an anchor in the ocean, you know I could never leave.”

The show also included a cameo from Blondie star Debbie Harry who introduced Rodrigo before she sang her latest single, Drop Dead.

Her SNL stint comes days after the singer announced her global The Unraveled Tour, which will kick off in September.

During her opening monologue, the star also poked fun at herself where she sang a parody version of her hit song Driver’s Licence, tweaking the lyrics to sing about getting her real ID instead.

She sang: “I got my real ID last week, showed up at the DMV. I sat there waiting 14 hours, with nine forms to prove it’s me.”

She also made a jab at her former co-star, boxer Jake Paul, who she starred alongside in the Disney series Bizaardvark.

She said: “We had an incredible cast which included acting legend Jake Paul. And we’d always talk about our futures, me and Jake.

“I’d say, ‘I really want to create music that explores the complexities of girls my age’, and he’d say, ‘Well, one day I really want to beat up old guys on Netflix'”.

The comments comes after Paul faced off US professional boxer Mike Tyson in a match which streamed on Netflix in 2024.

She added: “And we both did it. Hooray!”

Rodrigo’s latest single, Drop Dead, was accompanied with a music video which featured the singer dancing and running around The Palace of Versailles.

The track shot to the top of the singles charts and became her fourth song at number one following on from 2023’s Vampire and 2021’s Driver’s Licence and Good 4 U.

Rodrigo released her debut album Sour in 2021 which climbed to the top of the UK charts and won the best pop vocal album and best new artist Grammy in 2022.

The release was followed by her second album, Guts, in 2023 with her upcoming third album, You Seem Pretty Sad For A Girl So In Love, out on June 12th.

The album release marks nearly a year since the singer headlined Glastonbury music festival, performing at the famous Pyramid Stage.
