Slaney Valley have earned their place in the All-Ireland U11 tag rugby finals to be held in SETU Carlow on 24/25 August.

FIVE Carlow teams represented the county at the recent summer set of Leinster finals in Longford.

Graiguecullen’s U12 girls represented Carlow in Gaelic football while Ballon/Rathoe’s U12 girls earned Leinster qualification in 7-a-side soccer. Carlow also had three teams in action in tag rugby, one each from Slaney Valley, Hacketstown and Rathvilly.

Slaney Valley’s U11 tag rugby team were crowned Leinster champions after a thrilling final against Longford’s Ballymahon Forgney that went to extra time. Earlier they had seen off Westmeath’s Castledaly in a semi-final match on a scoreline of 12-9. Slaney Valley are now just two games away from a potential All-Ireland title. The finals will be held in Carlow’s SETU at the end of August.

In U14 tag rugby, Hacketstown were unfortunate to lose their semi-final game to Castledaly of Westmeath.

In the U16 competition, Rathvilly were the eventual runners up, taking home silver medals.

Graiguecullen’s U12 girls’ gaelic football team were also silver medalists in Longford, succumbing to Dublin's Knocklyon in the final.

Ballon/ Rathoe’s U12 girls’ soccer team were unfortunate to lose out at semi-final stage to a strong Offaly team.

A great Saturday of camaraderie was enjoyed by all. Once again, a debt of gratitude is owed to all involved in the organising of the Leinster championship and finals, and to all volunteers on the day.
