One of Ireland’s fastest rising rugby figures, Connacht captain Cian Prendergast, has joined forces with leading rugby commentator Murray Kinsella to support the 2025 Alzheimer’s Memory Walk, supported by Aviva. Prendergast is the son of Carlow's Ciara Ware and first cousin of Carlow Ladies Footballer Elaine Ware.

The 2025 Alzheimer’s Memory Walk is taking place nationwide on Sunday, September 21, coinciding with World Alzheimer’s Day.

Both Prendergast and Kinsella have been personally touched by dementia. Cian’s grandmother lived with dementia before her passing, and Murray’s grandmother-in-law also lived with the condition. Their involvement brings a powerful connection to this year’s campaign, which aims to honour the 64,000 people living with dementia in Ireland and the families and carers who support them.

Murray will be running the Berlin Marathon on Memory Walk Day to raise funds for The Alzheimer Society of Ireland, while Cian hopes to take part in the Salthill, Galway Memory Walk, schedule permitting. If not, he will walk wherever he is in support of the nationwide event.

“I’ve seen the effects of dementia firsthand,” Prendergast said. “Memory Walk is a chance to come together, share stories, and support the incredible work being done by The Alzheimer Society of Ireland. I would encourage everyone who can to register now for a location near you at memorywalk.ie.”

“Dementia has impacted my family deeply, and I know how important it is to support those living with it and the people who care for them,” said Kinsella. “Running the Berlin Marathon is my way of honouring my late grandmother-in-law, Cassie Hyland and helping raise awareness and funds for vital services provided by The Alzheimer Society of Ireland.”

The Alzheimer’s Memory Walk supported by Aviva, now in its sixth year, will take place in almost 40 locations across Ireland. It’s a day for families, friends, and communities to walk together, share old memories, and make new ones. In 2024, nearly 3,500 walkers raised over €150,000 to support essential services such as Daycare, Support Groups, Family Carer Training, and the National Helpline.

To register and receive your Participant Pack, visit www.memorywalk.ie. Adult registration is €20 and children’s packs are €5.
