Parkville claimed the derby day bragging rights as they secured a big win in the relegation tussle, moving them up to 5th, five points clear of last placed Hanover by beating Burrin who find themselves in a little trouble a point further back. It was a must win game for both sides, and for Parkville in particular as they both battle to stay in the league. Set-pieces in particular did for Burrin but a poor second half saw them struggle to get back into a game that they trailed in at half-time.

Parkville took the lead with seven minutes gone. Eoin Carolan making his first start for the club since he returned at Christmas put in a cross into the back post where Adam Cleary fired in. 11 minutes later, an Alex Kelliher effort from distance was hit into the ‘keeper. With 21 minutes gone, Burrin levelled as Darragh O’Donohue was played in behind the defence by Daniel Turet and fired in from close range. Four minutes later, another Carolan cross threatened but Cleary headed it wide at the back post. With 20 minutes to go until half-time, a ball was played in for O’Donoghue but he couldn’t get onto the end of it. A Carolan corner from the right was cleared. Just after the half hour mark, a Carolan free from the right was deflected over the bar with the resulting corner from the right being cleared. New signing, Brian Maher, who has returned to his boyhood club after spending several seasons in the Wexford League of Ireland academy, fired in an effort from distance but he hit it off the crossbar. With ten minutes to go, Burrin took the lead for the first time as Kelliher was played in behind by Maher and he made no mistake in burying the ball into the back of the net. Parkville raced straight down the other end and Kyle McCann buried an effort from distance into the bottom left hand corner to level. With two minutes to go until half-time, a Carolan corner from the right saw Eoghan Dempsey’s diving header at the back header land in the back of the net as Parkville restored their lead.

Kelliher put an effort from the right across the box two minutes after the break. Lorcan Canavan went close seven minutes later but he fired an effort from distance straight into the ‘keeper. McCann’s free from the left was cleared. Just shy of the hour mark, a Maher free from the left was hit over the bar. Midway through the half McCann dispossessed a Burrin defender but couldn’t convert his effort. A Shane Duffy free was saved. With 20 minutes to go, McCann ran the length of the pitch from the free and broke down to the right wing and squared for Jack O’Neill in the middle who just had to tap in to get the fourth goal. Ten minutes later, an O’Neill free from the right was cleared. Carolan put an effort wide on the left under pressure. A Burrin free from the left saw Ryan Clarke hit an effort into the ‘keeper at the death.
