Adam Nolan (National senior silver medalist), Rasheed Broadbell (110m hurdles bronze medalist at the Olympic games in Paris) and Billy Delaney coach

It’s not every day you show up to training and find an Olympian make a surprise visit to the track and a Bronze Olympian medalist from Paris none the less.

Everyone at the club was only delighted to welcome Jamaican athlete Rasheed Broadbell who specialises in the 110m hurdles. The 24 year old who only last month claimed bronze at the Olympics in Paris in a time of 13.09 and was also a gold medalist at the Commonwealth Games in 2022.

He set a personal best at the Jamaican Championships in 2023 of 12.94. Rasheed was set to compete at the upcoming Brussels Diamond League but unfortunately has had to withdraw due to injury. Rasheed was amazed at the facility at the St Laurence O'Toole club and said he would like to come back.

To help with his recovery Rasheed will be treated by Carlow based therapist Anthony ‘Star’ Geoghegan Realta Clinic who is no stranger to working with A-list sporting stars. Rasheed was very impressed with both the indoor and outdoor facilities and hopes to return when injury free.

We wish Rasheed well with his recovery and would only be thrilled to welcome him back anytime.

The visit came ahead of a big week for the club. St Laurence O’Toole AC will welcome Olympic silver medalist John Treacy to the club on Friday for the opening ceremony of their new track and all welcome to join them between 10am and 1pm.
