Move over Adam Dee, Carlow has a new darts superstar as Kilcullen’s Jack Courtney secured a tour card for the JDC Advanced Tour for 2025. The youngster won the second tour and the second tour card of the day on Saturday at Q-School. Whereas with the PDC, it’s done over a week, with the JDC, they do two tours per day on Saturday and Sunday. Speaking to the JDC, Courtney said it was an amazing opportunity.
“It will bring my game up. I’m really grateful for all the support.”
Carlow County Youth Darts Chairman, Paddy Cullen said that it was a fantastic achievement.
“He had a great day yesterday travelling to England. It was great for him to win his tour card. It is [a big deal]. In the PDC, they go to Q-School to win their tour cards and on the JDC side of it, you get to play some of the top elite players in the world so it’s a great opportunity for him. Luke Littler [the 17 year old PDC World Champion] was in that section a few years ago and we all know what happened there. It’s brilliant for him. It shows we’re doing something right that we have kids coming out and doing things like this for a few years. It’s great for the club. Adam Dee would have been there but I don’t think the Q-School side of things was around in his time unfortunately.”
Courtney was one of five who travelled over to Q-School from Carlow with Rebecca Allen, Luke Dooley, Jamie French and Con O’Reilly all involved too.
Courtney was also part of the squad who won the Leinster Championships in Kilkenny recently to go with their All-Ireland win from last year. Courtney won the Youths doubles to go with their team title. Cullen explained that it was the only trophy that the group hadn’t won in recent years.
“The weekend before we were in Kilkenny in the Ormonde Hotel and won the Leinster Championships so that was another good one. I don’t think we ever won that as youths so that was another feather in our cap ahead of the All-Irelands. I think it’s the only major cup we haven’t won so it’s absolutely brilliant to have. I’ve been waiting to win the Leinsters.”
