Hall of Fame Winner for 2024, Patricia Amond Lawler dedicated her award to her father and mother, Michael and Lena Amond, coach Paudge Ryan and her club, St Laurence O’Tooles.
In an all-encompassing few words, she spoke from the heart.
“I know there are many more. My parents, Michael and Lena Amond. Without my Mam and all the sacrifices they made for myself and all my sisters, Eleanor and Mary, I would not be here. She drove the length and breadth of the country to all our competitions,” said the multiple winner at 100m, 200m and 400m events in Ireland and venues in England and Europe.

“Paudge Ryan, my first coach, a man who gave his time in every way and much more than just a coach,” she said.
Her clubs were given a resounding thumbs up “I also want to acknowledge St Laurence O’Toole’s athletic club, Carlow Community Games and Dublin City Harriers for all their help and input.”
The Hall of Fame Award winner acknowledged what it meant to her to be chosen.
“It is a big deal to be recognised by your own people so I want to congratulate all the award winners here tonight. You should all be so proud of yourselves and your achievements.” She pointed out that hard work will take sports people a long way.
“There is no magic in all of this. Dedication, application, perseverance and of course a little luck along the way. Add to that a good support system.
Just to remember, competition is chaos in all sports and in all you can do is control the controllables, respect everybody and fear no-one,” she explained.
“In conclusion, I am going to leave you with three little thoughts. Lose again, rise again and win again.”
