This under 20 football championship second round group game at Conleth Park on Wednesday was over at half-time with the home side leading 2-16 to 0-9. Carlow fought hard but came up against a side who, in the opening half, were merciless in their point-taking. Ben Loakman and Ross Harris picked off 14th and 28th minute goals respectively. Carlow’s Brandon Cassidy was their leading scorer in the opening 30 minutes with four points from frees.
From the opening minutes of the second half, the game duly played out to its inevitable conclusion. Carlow two pointers took the bad look off the scoreline with Liam Gavin registering three and Jack Deacy on the mark with one at the end.
Late goals from Ross Harris and Eoin Cully emphasised the difference in class between the two teams as Kildare saw out the game with a degree of confidence.
