The sun fails to shine on Carlow in the South East

Wexford were pillar to post winners over Carlow in this National Football League Division 4 encounter at Chadwicks Wexford Park on Saturday.
The home side were on the front-foot from the off with Sean Ryan, Kevin O’Grady and Glen Malone all pointing. On 13 minutes a good passing movement was rewarded with Ryan deftly finding the inside of the right-hand post for an excellent goal.
A two-point free from Mark Rossiter added to Carlow woes and the same player converted another free to push out the home’s sides lead to 1-6 to 0-1 on 26 minutes.
Up to that point, Darragh O’Brien was Carlow’s only scorer from a free and he doubled his tally while Ross Dunphy squeezed a point in a tight situation. At the interval, Wexford were all but out of sight as they led 1-8 to 0-3.
While Carlow improved in the third quarter, their attack lacked penetration and a second Ryan goal snuffed out any suggestion of a comeback. At the end, Carlow captain, Mikey Bambrick, was red-carded for what Carlow manager, Shane Curran, suggested was harsh.
