St Mullins sent out a signal loud and clear that they are fully intent on retaining their title when they overran Naomh Eoin in the senior hurling semi-final at Netwatch Cullen Park on Sunday.
The champions got off to a stunning start when Marty Kavanagh converted a free and then turned provider when passing to Paddy Boland. The corner forward still had it all to do but he found the net at the O’Hanrahan end of the ground.
The eventual winners dominated and with Kavanagh converting the frees and Colm Kavanagh chipping in with three points, they led 1-11 to 0-4. Ciaran Abbey landed two frees and a 65 for Naomh Eoin while his brother, Peter, pointed from play.
With two long range frees from goalkeeper, Brian Tracey, and points from Abbey and Eoin Hosey, Naomh Eoin outscored their opponents in the opening minutes of the second period. They were unable to maintain the attempted comeback.
Instead, Marty Kavanagh scored two goals midway through the half and after that it was all about the margin of victory.
