A reception was held recently in Sean Swan’s Electrical to honour Carlow two All-Ireland winning camogie teams, at Under 16 and Under 23.

Sean Swan himself, a long-time supporter of Carlow camogie, was on hand to host the event alongside MC Brendan Hennessy.

Carlow camogie chairperson Margaret Condell spoke to both congratulate the winning teams and also to thank long-term sponsor Sean Swan.

“You can't begin to believe how proud we are in Carlow Camogie of each and every girl that puts on a Carlow jersey to represent the county. To win an All-Ireland, for us in Carlow is just the cream and the cherry on top.

"Both for yourselves, under 16 and the under-23 team, was your first year in that competition and it's brilliant to be able to go out and say, first year in, and you come home with an All-Ireland title. So, fair dues to each and every one of those girls,” said Condell, who also noted that the minor team were narrowly beaten in an All-Ireland Final also.

“We're doing something right in Carlow when we're able to have that potential in the players that we have. Well done to all the mammies and daddies and whoever it is that brings you to train in your clubs first and then you get to come on in and decide to play for the county. We are so lucky to have the calibre of player that we do and to see what you're able to produce on that field,” added Condell.

“We are so, so grateful to have Sean with us. He's just an amazing sponsor,” said Condell.

Carlow Camogie secretary Linda Kenny echoed those sentiments.

“I want to thank Sean Swan for his generosity, friendship, and his support of all things Carlow Camogie, from our under-16 to our intermediate team. Having Sean Swan on the end of the phone is something that is a reassurance to me when I know we need something but we may not always have the money to get it. Sean just adores everything and everyone that wears that Swann's electrical Carlow camogie jersey. So Sean, thank you very much,” said Kenny.

Minister Jennifer Murnane O'Connor was present on the night to support girls in sport, and Carlow GAA chairman John McDonald also spoke.

“All-Irelands are not easy to come by. There's a lot of blood, sweat, and tears gone into them trophies, I'd imagine. I'd also like to acknowledge the parents who bring everyone training and sit there in the dark, cold nights. I'd say that's very well appreciated.

“I'd like to think that Carlow GAA and Carlow Camogie have a very good working relationship. We meet a couple times during the year, facilities made available for you to train, and going forward, we wish you the best of luck and Carlow GAA are there behind you, 100%,” said McDonald.

The two All-Ireland winning teams were then further honoured at half time of Carlow’s McDonagh tie against London in Netwatch Cullen Park.
