It was Éire Óg who advanced to the Stryve U20 ‘A’ football championship final, following a narrow victory over Michael Davitts, at Netwatch Cullen Park.
In truth, this game was almost finished as a contest at half-time, following a scintillating opening half by the victors.
Jamie Coakley opened the scoring for the red and white with a delightful long-range point, in the second minute. Ruarc Murray then doubled his side’s lead, just 60 seconds later.
A goal by the impressive Josh Brady, and a point from captain Ronan Quinlan, stretched Éire Óg’s lead out even further.
Michael Davitts eventually got their first point of the game in the 16th minute, following a Charlie Nolan effort. Moments later, Bobby Daly doubled his side's tally, with a lovely point.
Éire Óg continued their superiority however at the start of the second half, following a Ruarc Murray point in the 35th minute.
Incredibly, against the run of play in the 47th minute, Davitts struck for goal, following a fine finish by Aodhan Byrne. Moments later, Nolan kicked a point from close range, to bring the game back to a two point contest.
The eventual winners weathered the storm however and Quinlan kicked three points in a row, before Nolan got a consolation goal for Michael Davitts, from the penalty spot.
