A ruthless Old Leighlin put a depleted Rangers to the sword with ease in this group 1 second round game of the senior football championship at Netwatch Cullen Park on Sunday.
Tadgh Roche scored two first half goals while Daragh Fitzgerald and Mikey Bambrick also found the net. In fact, the latter’s goal arrived on 12 seconds when David Bambrick delivered quickly into the big square.
Eoin Doyle scored two points for Rangers who trailed 4-8 to 0-2 at the interval.
The second half was a procession and Roche could well have added two more goals. Dean Grennan in the Rangers goal did well to keep his net intact after the resumption.
Chris Nolan scored the Rangers goal towards the end of the third quarter when he burst through the middle and saw his first shot come down off the crossbar and over the line. It was too little, too late as Old Leighlin cemented their places in the knock-out stages.
