AZAP Senior Camogie Championship Final

Mount Leinster Rangers v Naomh Bríd

A lot goes on the line when Naomh Bríd and Mount Leinster Rangers go head to head in the Senior Camogie Final on Saturday. Naomh Bríd have been knocking on the door for so many years now that it doesn’t bear thinking about. They have to go back to the previous century (1999) to when they last won this title.

Rangers hammered on the door for many years and maybe didn’t hammer enough on their journey to a senior title when they eventually found a way last season when stopping Myshall. Will anyone ever forget the emotional scenes at the end when the Borris side prevailed?

Now Naomh Bríd want to knock them off their perch this year. The feeling is that they have every chance of doing so. The Leighlin based parish side topped the group and were convincing winners over St Mullins in the semi-final.

Kate Burke scored 2-2 that day but significantly Rachel Sawyer came into the action and her speed on the ball produced two great points for a player who has been carrying injuries for far too long. She should be getting fitter and fitter now.

In their semi-final, while Rangers repeated their 2025 victory over Myshall, questions have to be asked of that performance. Of 13 points scored Ciara Kavanagh accounted for 11 of those and 10 were from placed balls. That individuality will surely be not good enough to win a county final.

Yet semi-finals are there to be won. They advanced and both teams will be judged on Saturday’s result. One feels that, having won a senior football title last weekend, momentum will carry Naomh Bríd in their quest for an amazing double.

Verdict: Naomh Bríd
