Shea Hayes, a member of the winning Mount Leinster Rangers team has seen it all with this team. There have been bad days but 2025 was a good one when they finally got over Myshall to win their first senior camogie title.
On Saturday, they followed that up with a 0-13 to 1-5 win over the same team in the semi-finals.
Nobody can quite remember the last camogie final without Myshall there, but Rangers have a steely focus on retaining their title this, no matter who they have to play against.
“Obviously last year we went into Dr Cullen Park to play Myshall and they were on a mission to win 26 in a row. We stopped that one and we knew today they were hurting all winter. They came here today, showed that hurt and thundered into us,” he pointed out.
The holders made it hard on themselves when conceding an early goal.
“It is something we have to tidy up. We are conceding goals which you wouldn’t be happy with,” Hayes confessed.
“But our girls and there is a steeliness in that bunch, it showed in the last ten minutes. It wasn’t pretty hurling but we are all around long enough to know semi-finals are all about getting over the line. We are glad to do that today.” If there was a negative to conceding the three-pointer, there were clouds with silver-linings too.
“Any day you only concede five points you would be happy enough. To be fair the backs made some big interceptions in that second half. Tara Kavanagh, Aine Ryan and Sarah Joyce were immense in that back line. They did what they had to do,” stressed Hayes who was happy to see the accuracy of their centre-forward.
“At the other end, Ciara Kavanagh nailed important frees. With that wind , it wasn’t simple but Myshall kept us honest the whole way through.”
