Carlow 0-15 Wexford 0-10 Leinster Minor Football Championship Group 3 Round 3 By Kieran Murphy Carlow qualified for the knock-out stages of the Leinster Minor Football Championship when they saw off the challenge of Wexford at Netwatch Cullen Park on Thursday.

Feature of the first half was the three two-pointers from the eventual winners with Ronan Dooley, raising an 10th minute orange flag to go with the earlier points from Alex Doyle and Cormac Murphy. The former went on to convert a free from outside the Dee and Dooley finished the first half scoring with another two-pointer from the right into the O’Hanrahan end of the ground.

The Wexford scores came from PJ Breen, Cian Kavanagh (free) and Donncha O’Hanlon as the home side led 0-10 to 0-3 at the interval.

In the second half both sides cancelled each other out somewhat. In the third quarter thanks to scores from Doyle and Andrew Joyce Carlow kept their rivals at bay. In reply, Kavanagh converted two frees and Harry Asple knocked over a point to give Wexford hope but the visitors could never get the goal which could have given them the momentum to save the game.

Instead Danny McMahon and Doyle both raised white flags for Carlow and this was enough to see them through in a nervy enough finish. Their opponents are now likely to be either Offaly or Westmeath in a preliminary quarter-final on Tuesday 28 April.
