Bagenalstown Gaels 0-15 Tinryland 1-10

Bagenalstown Gaels made it two wins in a row when they produced a brilliant second half performance in this senior football championship second round Group 1 tie at Netwatch Cullen Park on Saturday to wipe out 1-6 to 0-4 arrears.

While Tinryland opened the scoring with a James McGrath point, Bagenalstown enjoyed the better start. A Paddy McDonnell free and another from play coupled with Cian Doyle’s white flag flattered the Barrowsiders.

Tinryland came forward in numbers with Diarmaid Walshe scoring a point from play and another free.

The key moment of the half came on 24 minutes when Jonah Dunne was fouled going through at the scoreboard end of the ground and Conor Carew converted the resultant penalty.

Shane Redmond with a mark and McGrath extended the Tinryland lead and they went in leading by those five points..

While it was very much a team performance, Paddy McDonnell produced a Man of the Match performance where he led the attack by example and also slotted eight points over the hour. Six of these came from frees with the Bagenalstown man accurate from difficult angles.

With the game in injury time, Diarmaid Walsh settled for his fourth point of the game from a free presumably in the hope of winning the kick-out. From the kick-out the Gaels did well to get the ball down the field to safety and the security of the full-time whistle.
