Huge turnout for Club Carlow GAA Golf Classic

The winning team in the Carlow GAA Golf Classic in Mount Wolseley being presented with their prizes by Rowena Dooley from Dooley Motors was Jimmy Byrne, Christian Purcell and Jake Lacey - missing Paddy Purcell.
OVER 100 golfers participated in the Dooley Motors sponsored Club Carlow’s GAA Golf Classic in Mount Wolseley last Friday. The weather held up well, and golfers from across the county, and beyond, got to test their skills on the immaculately presented Tullow layout. Speaking after the event, David Kelly, Chair of Club Carlow, said:
“I am overwhelmed with the support for this year’s Classic. There was huge interest from golfers looking to enter the Team of Four Scramble, so much so that the timesheet was filled after two days. The business community and Carlow GAA Clubs and supporters throughout the county, came on board with sponsorship pledges in record numbers”.
He thanked Rowena Dooley, of Dooley Motors for returning as this year as title sponsor, and added:
“When Carlow GAA is doing well, Carlow businesses do well, as it lifts the spirit of the whole county."
Rowena Dooley said Dooley Motors are delighted to sponsor such an event.
“Dooley Motors were delighted to renew their close ties with Carlow GAA, and delighted to hear such positive comments from participants in this year’s competition."
The standard of play on the course was fierce, with a record winning team score being achieved in the main Competition – won by father and son Paddy and Christian Purcell, alongside Mount Wolseley veteran Jimmy Byrne, and Junior golfer Jake Lacey – who had 11 birdies and an eagle for a 13 under Par gross total.
Speaking on behalf of the winning team, Jimmy said he was “thrilled with the result, and delighted to see so many out supporting Carlow GAA on the day”. The non GI Team competition was won by Derek Conry, Jack Dempsey, David Conry & Cathal Ware.
