Carlow 2-11 Offaly 1-8

Clíodhna Ní Shé showed no signs of fatigue following Bennekerry-Tinryland’s All-Ireland winning campaign as she scored 1-5 in Fenagh to give Carlow a first win of the League campaign, while her genius led to the second goal too. She was a shining star in Carlow’s victory over Offaly, with her leadership also key. This was Carlow’s first game of the season with their game against Laois cancelled due to the bad weather. It was a slow start for the hosts, and they were in trouble early on, trailing by two points. Ní She turned the game on it’s head and put Carlow into the lead midway through the half as she hit an effort from distance in behind the Offaly ‘keeper who was off her line and the ball trickled into the net. From there, Carlow kept their foot on the accelerator and a moment of genius from a free saw Ní She keep the ball low and float it into the box rather than just put it over for a point and Ella Molloy got on the end of it to knock it in. Offaly got a goal back just before half-time to reduce the game to a two point game going into the break. Carlow came out after half-time and scored seven points to Offaly’s three with majority of the half being played in the Offaly half as Carlow pulled the trigger.
