The fall-out from the departure of Shane Curran as manager of the Carlow Senior Football Team has intensified with the release of a statement on behalf of the team itself.

As rumours spread on Wednesday that Curran and Carlow GAA had severed their connections, Carlow GAA released a statement confirming the Roscommon native was no longer manager.

The players believed that they had been scapegoated and were furious with the wording of the statement.

Before their seventh and final game of the National Football League against London, some of the players had decided to stay on overnight after the final game had been played. Yet they say a story arose making it look as if the players had rebelled, would not go back on the bus and stayed on overnight in some form of protest. Players are adamant this was definitely not the case.

Almost from the start of Curran’s reign, there has been a steady drip of players from the set-up while and a member of management also left the panel. The manager himself conceded a number of players had decided not to commit but was adamant that he was fully in charge and would take the team through to the championship.

When asked to comment on the statement, Carlow County Board Chairman, Jim Bolger, said he would be examining the document and would prefer not to say anything at this stage.
