Lidl National League Division 3

Cavan 6-17 Carlow 1-4

Carlow were on the wrong end of a big defeat after travelling to take on Cavan at Kingspan Breffni today.

Without a number of their strongest players last year, Cavan suffered relegation from Division 2 last year but a change of management has meant all their big stars are back on board again and they look like a team capable of playing at a higher level, they were certainly too strong on the day for Carlow.

Cavan scored the first 5-17 of the game before electing to make a whole host of second half changes.

Carlow, to their credit, kept plugging away and introduced some younger players in the second half, and six players made their senior intercounty debuts - Leanne Carroll, Eve Sinnott, Amy Farrell, Kate Burke, Genevieve Sherlock and Sarah Nolan.

Orla Woods kicked two good points from play, to go with two frees from Clíodhna Ní Shé, and Carlow got the last score of the game when Roisin Bailey hit the Cavan net.

It was a third win of the campaign for Cavan and they look like they will romp away with the division. Carlow won’t play teams of this quality every week and their season is more likely to revolve around games like their impressive win over Offaly last week. They must quickly put this game behind them before making the short trip to play local rivals Laois next weekend.
