CARLOW 4-7 DOWN 1-10

CARLOW were crowned All-Ireland U16B Camogie Champions after a terrific display today against Down in Abbotsown.

Manager Anthony O’Brien said in the build up to this final that this was a team that the county could be proud of and the players certainly backed that up with a performance good enough to win any final.

Much of the hard work for the win was laid in a dominant first half. Grainne Grennan’s goal after just four was the ideal start and at half time they led 1-7 to 0-2 with Kate Burke, Rachel Kennedy, and Amy Doyle and joint captains Sarah Murphy and Alice Dalton all contributing points.

The second half was more difficult for Carlow as Down made inroads on their lead but Kate Burke scored a well timed goal to make it 2-7 to 0-6.

Doyle scored her first of two second half goals shortly after to make it 3-7 to 0-6 and although Down pulled a goal back, by the time Doyle got her second to make it 4-7 to 1-8 Carlow were in complete control.

Carlow were particularly strong through the middle of the pitch with centre back Sarah Murphy, midfield partnership Siobhan Sinnott and Alice Dalton and wing forward Amy Doyle all having fine games, while Amy Farrell make a big impact off the bench, but was Rachel Kennedy who was named as player of the match.
