SENIOR FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP GROUP 1 ROUND 2

BAGENALSTOWN GAELS 4-12 FENAGH 0-10

Bagenalstown Gaels got themselves back into the reckoning in the senior football championship thanks to this convincing win over Fenagh on Saturday at Netwatch Cullen Park The eventual winners dominated the first half starting with a Shane Clarke two-pointer in the opening minutes. Ian Craddock replied with a Fenagh point but after causing a surprise after beating Tinryland last week, the Moll Bennetts were out of touch here.

A sabre like attack from deep saw Paddy McDonnell pounce and after running through the Fenagh defence he found the net at the O’Hanrahan end of the ground.

Jack McCullagh’s two-pointer was the icing on the cake for the eventual winners who led 1-9 to 0-4 at the break.

It was going to take a monumental effort for Fenagh to get back into the game but Bagenalstown never let their concentration drop. Robbie Kane scored an excellent solo goal when he beat his marker and squeezed the ball past a helpless Jack Rowan and the left-hand post.

The performance was embellished with two more goals through Danny Doyle and a Jamie Clarke penalty.
