Carlow juvenile game abandoned as committee await referee's report

O’Brien confirmed that a young person was brought to hospital but was unable to explain what happened
Carlow Coisde na nÓg Chairman, Michael O’Brien, has confirmed he is awaiting the referee's report after an under 12 football game between Palatine and Michael Davitts was abandoned on Saturday in the Palatine GAA grounds in Bennekerry.
Reports are circulating that an ambulance was called to bring a young player to hospital after a number of unruly incidents took place. The format of the under 12 games allows for two matches between the same clubs to take place consecutively but after the teams took to the pitch for the second game, it was believed that it was then called off.
O’Brien confirmed that a young person was brought to hospital but was unable to explain what happened.
“That could simply be a collision in the game. I don’t know,” the Coisde Chairman said while he went on to say that he was extremely concerned that such an incident was alleged to have taken place. He continued to emphasise that he cannot say anything until he examines the referee’s report.
On Sunday evening, the chairman confirmed he had spoken to officials from both clubs and expects to have the referee’s report. He explained the first game was abandoned because of the injury to a player but he was unable to explain why the second scheduled game did not take place.
“I am happy to comment when I see the referee's report which will also decide where we need to go with this,” emphasised O’Brien.
