Yellow weather warnings issued for Carlow as Storm Chandra approaches
Storm Chandra brings a yellow weather warning
CARLOW County Council has issued weather alerts ahead of heavy rainfall and strong winds expected to hit the county on Tuesday.
Met Éireann has issued a Status Yellow rain warning for Carlow, along with Kilkenny, Louth, Wexford, Waterford and Wicklow, which will be in effect from midnight tonight until 11pm on Tuesday evening.
A separate Status Yellow wind warning has also been issued for Carlow and 12 other counties, valid from 5am to 11pm on Tuesday. The wind warning affects Carlow, Dublin, Kildare, Kilkenny, Louth, Meath, Wexford, Wicklow, Cavan, Monaghan, Cork, Kerry and Waterford.
According to the alerts, bands of rain associated with Storm Chandra will be heavy and persistent throughout the day, while winds will be very strong and gusty, particularly about the coasts and along exposed areas.
With ground already saturated from recent rainfall, the conditions are expected to lead to localised flooding, river flooding and difficult travel conditions. The wind warning also highlights the risk of fallen trees and loose debris, wave overtopping and hazardous travel conditions.
Met Éireann said outbreaks of rain will be heavy at times and advised the public to be aware of possible impacts on their journeys.
Residents are advised to stay updated on weather conditions and to exercise caution when travelling during the warning period.
