CARLOW is set to benefit from a significant funding allocation of €310,000 under the Community Recognition Fund, as announced yesterday by minister Dara Calleary.

The funding package will see €200,000 allocated to the Carlow Volunteer Hub for building development works, while Tullow Men’s Shed will receive €110,000 for much-needed refurbishment.

Local TD and minister of state Jennifer Murnane O’Connor has welcomed the announcement, describing it as “a fantastic day for Carlow”.

“I am absolutely delighted to see Carlow benefit from this significant investment,” said minister Murnane O'Connor. “The €200,000 for the Carlow Volunteer Hub will help develop a state-of-the-art facility to support the incredible work of our volunteers, while the €110,000 for Tullow Men’s Shed will ensure their space is refurbished and fit for purpose.” The funding forms part of a national €14 million investment that will support 163 community projects across Ireland. The Community Recognition Fund, which was first introduced in 2023, aims to recognise communities that have welcomed and supported new arrivals.

In an online post, Tullow Men’s Shed said it was ‘over the moon’ with the news, adding that it will mean the group can refurbish its current space at the former health centre building they have been in for the past six years.

Minister Murnane O’Connor said that the funding is “a clear acknowledgment of the hard work and dedication of our local communities in Carlow and across the country”.

“It will not only improve facilities but also strengthen the bonds within our communities, ensuring they remain vibrant and inclusive for everyone. I want to thank minister Calleary for his continued support and commitment to rural and community development,” she added.

Deputy Catherine Callaghan also welcomed the allocation, adding that the funding was wonderful recognition for the hard work of Frank Morris, the committee and all at Tullow Men's Shed.
