TWO Carlow projects are set to benefit from the Community Recognition Fund.

A total of €100,000 has been allocated to Bagenalstown Swimming Club for upgrade and enhancement works to the car park there, while €50,500 is going to The Exchange at Potato Market in Carlow town for the enterprise festival and event equipment.

The fund aims to support the development of local infrastructure and facilities in recognition of the contribution being made by those communities in welcoming and hosting significant numbers of temporary protection and international protection applicants.

Giving back to communities

Making the announcement, minister Heather Humphreys said the funding was about “giving back” and thanking communities for “what they do week-in, week-out”.

The funding forms part of an overall €16.5 million for 185 projects right across the country and minister Humphreys said she looks forward to “seeing the positive impact that this funding will have on the ground in communities all across Ireland”.

Minister Joe O’Brien said the government is committed to supporting locals in their efforts in welcoming new arrivals from other countries. He urged community groups to liaise with the local council in relation to the application process to fund projects into next year.
