TWO of Carlow’s small businesses have been selected to show their wares to almost 300,000 people at the National Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska, Co Laois next month.

With the help of the Local Enterprise Office, the Carlow duo will join over 30 small businesses at the Local Enterprise Village for the duration of the event from 17 to 19 September.

Enchanted Castle Melts, based in Bagenalstown, manufacture handmade highly scented soy wax melts in a variety of fragrances, while Skillet & Spice from outside Carlow town produce a range of hand-blended, sesame-based seasonings inspired by globally popular American seasonings.

Joanne Doyle from Enchanted Castel Melts said the opportunity could be “a game-changer” for her business. “It's like having a massive shop window for three days in front of hundreds of thousands of potential customers and will allow me to get my brand in front of an audience that I might not have reached otherwise,” she said.

As in previous years, the Local Enterprise Village will showcase the variety and diversity of sectors supported by Local Enterprise Offices across the country. It’s a “golden opportunity”, according to the head of economic development and enterprise in Carlow’s office. Kieran Comerford said: “The chance to bring their ideas and products to almost 300,000 potential customers is a showcase like no other. The Local Enterprise Village has become one of those areas everyone wants to drop into to find their local business and see what they can pick up.”
