ALL creatures great and small were buffed, polished and paraded around when the Tullow Show took place recently at the Coppenagh showgrounds.
Hundreds of animals, from curly-fleeced sheep to fluffy Alpacas, from sleek horses to pedigree cattle and from noisy roosters to supermodel dogs, the event showed off the very best of the animals that were there to compete for the prestigious prizes.

But there was so much more to the Tullow Show than the livestock competitions, poultry awards and dog shows – there was literally something there for every member of the family.
Whether it was the youngsters screaming at the funfair, the teenagers flirting at the many chipper vans or the adults jiving and waltzing the afternoon and night away, Tullow Show was an event that teems with all that is great about country life.
There are many stories behind the cups and trophies that are presented yearly, with the names of the sponsors inscribed for generations of winners to see.
The year, a new cup was presented by the family of Lena O’Grady who loved the show and, in particular, the children’s section. There was an emotional moment when Lena’s own grandchild Sara O’Grady was presented with the cup for her painting of the Olympic champion Rhys McClenaghan. Elsewhere, a new cup was presented to the winners of the jiving competition thanks to local councillor John Pender.

The show has been running since 1946 and it was a special one this year for the organisers as taoiseach Simon Harris not only officially opened proceedings, he also stayed for several hours, enjoying all the sights and meeting people.
The committee members were delighted with how the event went and deeply appreciative of all the help they received over the past year.

“Not only were we blessed with such fabulous weather but the showgrounds were full of show friends and supporters from the second we opened the gates to Coppenagh House Farm,” said PRO Brian Hawkins.
“We were particularly honoured to have taoiseach Simon Harris with us to officially open our show. On behalf of the entire committee, we'd like to extend our sincere gratitude to our generous landowners, sponsors, trade stand exhibitors, competitors, judges, entertainment providers and, of course, all of our volunteers,” continued Brian.

“The support that Tullow Show has received over the last number of months has been truly amazing and we are so grateful. Our committee members dedicate so much time and energy throughout the year to plan, prepare and execute a safe and enjoyable day for our wonderful community. It would not be possible without the continued appreciation and support.”
